Hello everyone! It has definitely been a while...

It was written by Lana Sultan and I did the illustrations. There are about 28 pictures total and here are a couple. I had a great time working with these characters. A nice break to be able to create a new world for them.

Illustrator in Honduras!

I just got back from a trip to Honduras. I illustrated the book, A Sharefish Tale, for the non profit group Sharefish.org. The book will be out in print sometime soon. The goal is to use the money from the book sale to buy more books forthe library in El Corrizo, Honduras.

Sharefish was created as organization to improve education, nutrition, housing, medical and economic opportunities in impoverished communities. Sharefish is currently focused on improving the lives of children in two small communities in southern Honduras, one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere.

On our trip, the goal was to celebrate "Dia del Nino" with the kids. "Dia del Nino" is a national celebration to honor children. The kids were able to make crafts, jump rope, read new books, and draw pictures. I took down some of my Doodlin' Pads to donate to the library.

When the book is available, I will let you know. Below are a few pictures from the trip. My goal as an illustrator is to hopefully do more of these trips. I want my art to be more than a picture. I want to use it to help others.

Hello! Here is a new illustration I just did. I hope you enjoy it. The background texture is a combination of syrup and powdered sugar on a transparency sheet that I made on my scanner. After I ate breakfast, I spent about 2 hours making textures from all sorts of food and objects.

School Visit in Argentina

A week ago I traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to visit a friend who now lives there. While there, I taught the kids at his school how to draw and also showed them some of my art. I had a great time seeing the kids enjoy drawing. Here are some of their characters below. I showed them how to use their imaginations and illustrate the story that they were reading in class.

Great work by the kids, huh? It is fun to see their styles and the characters they make just out of basic shapes. Can you find the random Cyclops on some drawings?

Have you ever seen those huge rodents called Nutria? If not, here is one. Back in 1997, I was driving to work around 6:30 a.m. and I think I hit one of these creatures. I might be exaggerating, but it stood up and looked right at me. There was a big thud sound under my car, but when I came home from work in the afternoon, there was no sign of it...nor any damage to my car. What was it then? Anyway, enjoy this picture....I am working with more textures and a more painted style.

Every artist has at least 1 Roman soldier doodle....this is mine! My interpretation is your everyday Roman guard who has lots of time to think. He is stationed waaaay outside the stress of the city. What is he thinking about? The same things we all think about.

I wanted this to look like the old Italian renaissance paintings...except this took about 30 minutes.

Here are some sketches that I hope to get colored....someday! Anyone want to help me color? For some reason, I was thinking back to when we had kerosene lamps at our house during hurricane Alisha.

They are HUNGRY! I like how the one curls the car into his mouth while his little boy tries to hypnotize the car. The other kid just likes admiring the car.

Here is another character in the BIG Toof world. Her name is Ginger. She is completely rotten. She will lure you into her evil web and leave you hollow inside. Ginger's plan is to try and destroy Big Toof's ultimate power - His enamel. Only then can she ever hope to have complete control!

Goals past and present

When I was about 2 years old, my dad asked what I wanted to do when I got older. I said, "When I grow up....I wanna go to school...and get a big toof." Well, I have grown up, gone to school, and yes, gotten several teeth (and kept most of them) So, as a tribute to my past goal, I give you BIG TOOF! I have many more BIG TEEF characters to bring you in the future so stay tuned!

Big Toof is a breath of fresh air with a lot of ambition. He just wants to make people happy and tries to be a good role model. His darkest secret is that he likes tartar sauce.

This is Mo'lar - He likes to stay out of the limelight, but will stop to chew the fat with anyone. He likes to collect other people's possessions and will try to pawn your VCR. Watch out! He's nice ... until he takes your stuff.

Agent Alex

I illustrated a young reader book this year by Rubicon/Oxford Press called Agent Alex. This book works with teacher curriculum and lesson plans and motivates kids to interact and respond to the story.

This was a fun project because it was the first time I did all the sketches, line work, and coloring on the computer! It allowed me to try a different style and method of working.
